The rubber that could power mobile phones
Posted Fri, 01/29/2010 - 23:23 by Wired
A rubber film that generates electricity when it is flexed could power devices from mobile phones through to pacemakers in the future.
The film was developed by scientists at Princeton University, who say that it could be used in clothing or even fashioned into the soles of shoes. As the wearer moves, the rubber would then generate power.
The team suggests that it could even be used to help those with heart problems stating: "Placed against the lungs, sheets of the material could use breathing motions to power pacemakers, obviating the current need for surgical replacement of the batteries which power the devices."See original: The rubber that could power mobile phones
