Carcassonne for the whole family

Although my instinct is to reach for the controllers when it's family play time, I've been learning to appreciate more physical games. I'm not talking about contact sports or practical sciences, but plain old board games. I've recently been discovering the world of hobbyist board games that go way beyond the likes of Monopoly or Cluedo - even with their countless iterations.
One game that I've particularly taken to is Carcassonne. It's a tile-based strategy game for two to five players. The game involves laying tiles and wooden people, although the trick here is that you can only place tiles next to existing pieces with matching sides. As you play, a landscape emerges of fields, towns and roads, and the objective is to place your wooden pieces to own the biggest slice.See original: Carcassonne for the whole family
